Both in my professional career as a hospice nurse — and with my mom and dad — I’ve experienced the sacred space that is possible at end of life.
That’s why it’s a passion of mine, and why I’m so excited to offer resources that support peaceful dying.
Unfortunately, most people can’t conjure up any scenario in which the dying process and death could be considered something positive.
They cringe when the topic of death is mentioned and avoid such conversations at all costs.
This can be true across the spectrum of faith systems, and perhaps even more when there is no relationship with God at all.
While we all know that death is inevitable, the majority of individuals today are ill prepared for what lies ahead — even when living daily with severe illness.
Even more sadly, there are many who spend their final days without the spiritual, emotional and physical comfort that’s available — and leave this earth not knowing what’s next.
The 23rd Psalm is an oft-used scripture related to death and dying — and with good reason. It provides such a comforting picture of what God offers us at this time, specifically in verse four: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me” (NASB).
I’m respectful of each person’s perceptions about God — or desire to have nothing to do with Him at all.
As a Christian, I find my hope and comfort in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
If you don’t yet have a relationship with Jesus — and are interested in learning more about that — I’d love to hear from you.
On the flip side, if you aren’t the least bit interested in God, please stick around.
You can still find tremendous value in the resources offered here, and can pick and choose what you need.
As a hospice veteran, I’ve accompanied many patients and their families during their end-of-life journeys to the very moment of death — including my dad, and later, my mom.
While dying can be hard work, being well educated and well prepared for this sacred season can make an amazing difference for both the person facing death and their family members — which is why I offer Dying Talks™, my series of videos covering a variety of topics related to end of life.
There are many additional excellent resources available out there, and I will guide you to them as needed, too.
The offerings here for those in their final season of life are unique because they:
- are created by a seasoned healthcare professional with expertise in end-of-life issues;
- are created by a daughter who has traveled this journey with both parents;
- are grounded in a faith-based approach; and
- embrace a mindset of empowerment to help you make the most of the time you have left.
